Odysseus palace - St. Athanasios, Ithaca

Following the path to “Homer's School" you will arrive at the location where, based on findings, the palace of the mythical Odysseus used to be. The site is not fenced and the visit is free. You can also see Melanithros source, which according to Homer, was used by the maids of Penelope when they wanted to get water. In the area you will notice the remains of several buildings of the Mycenaean period, and the ruins of the church of St.  Athanasios which was built on the ancient palace. Before your visit to the area it is advisable to see the model of the palace which can be found in Stavros Square and which will give you a better understanding of the archaeological site.
